Cena in Bianco

Cena in Bianco (which means Dinner in White in Italian) is a trend that started in northern Italy in a small town called Torino, which happens to be where Marco’s parents and older brothers were born and where they lived before they came to America. How lovely it is that even if you’re a stranger you can share that sense of community for the evening, bonded by fun outfits, good food, and good wine. By happenstance, this is exactly what our Folino Family Club aims to do, so we thought it the perfect context to host this as the theme for dinner. We are filled with gratitude for the many friends we have made through wine club over the years, and we are always meeting new faces, too.

Thank you so much for attending our Cena in Bianco dinner last evening. It was beautiful to see the event come together with everyone wearing white and celebrating what our Folino Family Club is all about; togetherness, sharing a meal among strangers and friends as a united family, embracing what is at the core of the Italian culture. We look forward to these dinners each quarter and we leave them with an almost refreshed sense of why we do what we do. You all share the kindest sentiments that truly fuels us during the tough times of operating the business and keeps us moving forward. To know we have your support means everything to us. Thank you for being such a valued member of our Folino Estate family. Looking forward to seeing you at our next dinner!

Every quarter Marco and I host a family dinner for our Family Club members and I would love to see you at the next one!

A Night to Remember: Dinner Under the Cherry Blossoms

As I reflect on hosting the Folino Family Club dinner, surrounded by the delicate beauty of cherry blossom branches in our candle-lit barrel room, I’m filled with gratitude for the intimate moments shared amongst cherished company. From the echoes of laughter to the rich aroma of our aging red wines mingling with the floral scent of springtime, each gathering of Folino Family Club is a celebration of family, friendship, and the simple joys of gathering around the table. Thank you all who joined us in creating memories that blossom with warmth and connection.

For our Folino Family Club dinners, I always pull inspiration from the season, this Fall being the sunflowers from our field in the vineyard and how a sunflower represents positivity and strength, as the sunflower always follows the sun.

I loved the idea of creating a menu that featured touches of the sunflower as an ingredient. The sunflower butter cannoli was a favorite! I also picked figs from Marco’s mother’s fig tree to feature in our Fig & Burrata Crostini with sunflower honey drizzle.

We had the pleasure of hosting Folino Family Club Dinner on the Vineyard Terrace for a truly magical evening celebrating the Fall. As the sun dipped below the horizon, it cast a warm, golden glow over the vineyard and fields of sunflowers.

The tablescape was in full bloom as I took inspiration from the stunning sunflowers that had blossomed that season in front of the vineyard. The entire event paid homage to these vibrant symbols of happiness and a fulfilling life. The table decorations and the menu were nothing short of enchanting, setting the perfect tone for our special gathering.

The Folino Family Club is all about bringing people together to share meaningful moments, and the patio terrace overlooking the sunflower fields and vineyard provided a breathtaking backdrop.

Fresh figs picked from Marco’s Mother’s Garden

As the evening unfolded, we kicked things off with the first library wine, a delightful 2017 Valentino, enjoyed right in the middle of the sunflower field. With the sun setting gracefully, we indulged in a sumptuous dinner, surrounded by unique plein air paintings that added an artistic touch to the already charming atmosphere. Laughter filled the air as we savored delicious food and soaked in the natural beauty—an authentic celebration of the harvest season and the joy of being together.

But the real treat was our exclusive access to the first Plein Air Pop-Up Gallery, featuring the talents of local artists Russ Slocum and Karen Weber. Having spent two weeks at the Estate creating and preparing, their twelve remarkable pieces adorned the gallery walls. Russ and Karen were there, eager to share their passion for art and the hidden gems around the Estate that had inspired their work. It was a captivating and enriching experience that added even more charm to an already unforgettable evening.

Sangria Launch: Glamping Event

What a magical evening it was last Friday, with perfect conditions to introduce the canned sangria, to the world. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Folino Estate’s vineyard at sunset, the event was an artistic creation of flavors, laughter, and nature’s beauty. Allow me to take you on a journey through this enchanting glamping evening that brought together gourmet delights, creative expressions, and heartwarming connections.

Embracing the Glamping Spirit

As the sun began to set, our vineyard transformed into a haven of elegance and whimsy. The centerpiece was a charming boho-tent, where guests were greeted by the soft glow of string lights and the promise of an unforgettable evening. Fresh-picked, pink flowers swayed in the breeze, while cozy seating arrangements invited everyone to kick back and embrace the glamping spirit.

Wood-Oven Pizzas and Charcuterie Cups

One of the highlights of the night was undoubtedly the aroma of wood-oven baked pizzas wafting through the air. Freshly prepared on-site, these pizzas were a delight, offering the classic flavors of authentic Italy with each bite. But that wasn’t all – our menu also featured charcuterie cups, an elegant blend of artisanal meats, cheeses, and accompaniments, elevating the dining experience to a whole new level.

Blooms and Bouquets

The bouquet-station added a charming simplicity. Guests became artists, carefully selecting flowers from the gardens of Folino Estate to create stunning bouquets that reflected their individual creativity. The array of colors and fragrances painted a picture of nature’s splendor, serving as a reminder of the simple joys found in our surroundings.

Crafting Connections Friendship Bracelets and Joyful Conversations

As the night unfolded, laughter and stories filled the air, and connections were made at the friendship-bracelet making station. Friends and strangers alike united in crafting these small tokens of connection, sharing laughter and experiences as they worked side by side. The atmosphere buzzed with positivity and warmth, creating lasting memories and new bonds.

Satisfying Sweet Cravings: The S’mores Bar with a Twist

What’s a summer gathering without a s’mores bar? At our event, the classic treat received a flavorful twist with homemade strawberry mint marshmallows. The combination of flavors was melted in our mouths, as guests indulged in gooey delights while gathered around the bonfire.

The Star of the Show: Bubbly Honeysuckle Berry Canned Sangria

At the heart of it all was our newest addition to the Sangria line– the fizzy Honeysuckle Berry Canned Sangria. Seeing our guests sip and smile in enjoyment brought me so much joy. Sangria has always been a part of my summer memories and it is amazing to be able to provide that same experience to friends and strangers alike.

Chasing Sunsets and Cherishing Moments

As the evening drew to a close, the sky painted a warm, late-summer sunset over the vineyard. Hues of orange, pink, and purple merged, casting a glow over the entire event. It was a moment of reflection and gratitude, a reminder of the beauty that can be found in simple moments spent with friends and loved ones.

In Closing

The canned sangria launch event was a dream come true, a culmination of passion, creativity, and shared experiences. Seeing guests savor the flavors, engage in laughter, and connect with nature’s wonders was a deeply fulfilling experience. The boho-tent ambiance, wood-oven pizzas, bouquet-station, friendship bracelets, and strawberry mint marshmallows all contributed to an evening that was nothing short of magical. As the stars began to twinkle above the vineyard, I felt a sense of accomplishment and contentment, knowing that this night would be etched in our hearts forever as a celebration of taste, togetherness, and the beauty of life. Thank you everyone who attended, it was beautiful to be able to share these moments with you all.

Didn’t make it to the party? You can still order our canned Sangria online!

Late-Summer Brie

A recipe to delight

As the warm days of summer begin to wane, we find ourselves craving dishes that bridge the gap between carefree summer delights and the sophisticated flavors of fall. This charming late-summer Brie recipe strikes the perfect balance between the seasons. Join us as we explore the magic of this dish, inspired by my passion for Italian traditions and crafted with a touch of modern elegance.

Brie, A Timeless Classic:

This cheese’s velvety texture and buttery taste make it a popular choice for any occasion, from casual picnics to formal gatherings. The delicate flavor of Brie pairs exceptionally well with both sweet and savory elements, offering a versatile canvas for culinary creativity (and wine pairings!).

Fragola Strawberries

Italian strawberries, or fragole italiane, are known for their sweet and juicy taste, making them a delightful addition to various dishes, including desserts, salads, and even savory dishes. Daintily placed atop the Brie and honey, they add bursts of juicy freshness that invite you to relish the moment, just as Italians do while enjoying their “dolce far niente” – the sweetness of doing nothing.

The Art of Assembly:

To recreate the magic in your own kitchen, follow these simple steps:

  1. For best results, consider leaving your Brie at room temperature for an hour before baking. This simple step will take the chill off the cheese and ensure more even baking.Once the hour has passed, carefully unwrap the Brie and place it on a square of parchment paper. Position the parchment-topped Brie in your Brie-baker or dutch oven, to contain any oozy goodness during baking.
  2. Gently slide the prepared Brie into a preheated oven set at 350°F and let it bake for a duration of 10 to 20 minutes. The baking time may vary based on the size of your Brie and its initial temperature before baking. To determine its readiness, I recommend checking on the Brie at the 15-minute mark and adjusting the baking time accordingly.
  3. Top the Brie with Pecans, Honey, and Fragola Strawberries
  4. Enjoy with crispy bruschetta

Brie Baker

At the Folino Estate Bottle Shop, you’ll find the perfect companion for this late-summer dish – a charming Brie baker! This ceramic gem will bring a touch of rustic Italian countryside charm to your table. The baker, with its engravings and earthy hues, embodies the spirit of traditional Italian craftsmanship and elevates the presentation of this elegant but approachable dish.

Pairing Perfection: Folino Estate Rosato Secco Dry Rose Wine

No Italian feast is complete without the perfect wine pairing. The Folino Estate Rosato Secco Dry Rosé wine, with its lively notes of strawberry, red apple, and an underlying citrus tone, harmonizes flawlessly with the late-summer Brie recipe. Sipping this delightful Rosato while savoring the flavors of this brie will transport you to the sun-kissed vineyards of Italy, where time seems to slow down, and every moment is savored.

The true essence of this charming late-summer Brie recipe lies not only in the tantalizing flavors but also in the overall experience. The visual appeal of the dish, with its warm colors and elegant presentation, makes it a feast for the eyes as much as for the taste buds. It encourages us to savor the last moments of summer’s bounty while setting the stage for the forthcoming fall harvest. To that we say “Salute!”

Summer Winemakers Dinner 2023

We’re still reveling in the glow of our Summer Winemaker’s Dinner this past Friday. What a wonderful way to celebrate high summer with a delicious dinner and creative pairings of some of our favorite wines. Darrin brought to life the wine making process here at the Estate and we hope it inspired you to try new wines and find new favorites. We loved creating a summer tablescape for you with tomato vines and Nasturtium right from our very own garden and hope you feel inspired to enjoy summer’s ripe flavor this time of year. Thank you for spending your summer evening with us.
Much love,
